A pannikin is a tin cup generally used for drinking tea. It can also be used to make a slush lamp. According to 'The Stockman', a slush lamp is a ‘lamp made of a pannikin or empty jam tin, rendered animal fat and a wick of moleskin. The pannikin would be half-filled with clay to support the wick, which would be rolled round a stick thrust into the centre, with fat packed around it.’ (271) Reference: Dame Mary Durack, Hugh Swarey, R.M.
