Captain Henry Vere Barclay was born on January 6, 1845 in Bury, Lancashire, England. He held numerous positions as a seafarer which took him to a range of destinations including South America, New Zealand and Australia. He also became involved in exploration and government work, the latter of which included conducting an adverse investigation into operations in Hermannsburg in 1911 (CHECK). He died in 1917 in the United Kingdom.
