We understand that not everyone wishes to entrust their valuable research data to the generic Heurist instance at HeuristScholar.org, even though individual records can be made private to a particular workgroup. It would also be inefficient (and in the end, impossible) to store lots of large collections in this main instance of Heurist.
Instances
(a Heurist Database on Our Server)
We therefore run a number of special instances of Heurist for different projects - such as the Dictionary of Sydney, University of Western Sydney, London Higher Education map, European BioMap project, ABC Innovation and the USyd Arts Faculty CMS - which allow them to operate within a closed Heurist database accessible only to users of their instance.
Instances run on our servers and can be created quickly and easily on request.

Deployments
(a Heurist Database on Your Server)
Heurist can also be deployed as a standalone database on a server under your control. This facility became available at the end of 2008, and at Jan 2009 there is only one deployment (at the Centre for Computing in the Humanities, King's College London). Deployments are rather more complex, as we need to check that your server has the appropraite versions of support software (Apache, PHP, Cocoon etc.). Please contact Ian Johnson (yd.edu.au) to discuss your deployment needs.
Open Source
We plan to release Heurist as Open Source under the GNU GPL license during the course of 2009. We are happy to collaborate on the development of new features prior to release and to supply source code to collaborators.
