Heurist is a comprehensive and extremely flexible system for capturing, managing and reusing information, and as such it can at first appear complex. However, the fundamentals of Heurist are quite simple - records (shared information), bookmarks (private information), searching for records with particular characteristics (eg. material you've tagged for a particular purpose) and output of these results in various formats (lists, bibliographies, maps, timelines etc. either printed or generated live into a web page).
In addition Heurist supports user groups (workgroups and colleague groups), sharing of records and searches with other users, and discovery of material through social bookmarking.
If you understand these fundamental components, Heurist will make a lot more sense. The following pages explain these concepts in some detail, with appropriate illustrations.
